T. Scott Brisendine
Mr. Brisendine grew up in Fairfax County and attended Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia, where he graduated in 1986. He then attended college at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VIrginia, where he graduated in 1990, cum laude, majoring in philosophy and minoring in music. Mr. Brisendine earned his juris doctor degree from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1993
After graduating from law school, Mr. Brisendine clerked for the Honorable Stephanie Duncan-Peters in the District of Columbia Superior Court from 1993-1995. After completing his clerkship, Mr. Brisendine began working as an Assistant Public Defender in Fairfax County, and then later in Roanoke, Virginia.During his time as an Assistant Public Defender, Mr. Brisendine represented over a thousand clients charged with everything from misdemeanors such as reckless driving and assault and battery, to more serious felony charges such as rape, robbery and murder, in the General District, Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court, and the Circuit Courts.
Upon leaving public service, Mr. Brisendine eventually joined with the law firm of Martin, Arif, Petrovich & Walsh, PLLC., in Springfield, Virginia.During his time as an associate at the law firm, he was fortunate to have had the experience to assist in the defense of Lee Boyd Malvo, the juvenile charged in the Virginia sniper murders. Mr. Brisendine was also able to expand his practice area into the Federal Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, representing clients facing charges such as international drug distribution, international arms sales, and armed robbery, as well as less serious crimes such as DUI and possession of drugs.
Since the founding of the law firm of Brisendine, Overand, Buster & Bernstein, P.C., Mr. Brisendine has concentrated his representation to clients facing serious traffic violations, such as reckless driving and DUI. He has, however, continued to represent clients in more serious cases such as solicitation to commit capital murder, aggravated malicious wounding, murder, and the civil commitment of sexually violent offenders. Mr. Brisendine has been lead counsel in over thirty-five jury trials throughout his career, and over one hundred bench trials.
